Kevin
Good has served in the Trumpet section of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
since 1979. Prior to his appointment with the DSO he taught trumpet,
music theory, and jazz at Southern Methodist University in Dallas,
Texas. He also taught trumpet at the University of Windsor, Wayne State
University and the University of Michigan. He
began trumpet studies in the fifth grade and went on to receive his
Bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1975 and his Master’s
degree in 1977 from Northwestern University.
One of the founding members of Detroit Chamber Winds, he presently
performs with the ensemble and serves on its board of directors. With
the Chamber Winds he co-produced and recorded three discs for the Koch
International Classics label featuring the music of Charles Ives, Igor
Stravinsky, and William Bolcom. An active composer and arranger, Mr.Good
has written numerous jazz works and produced arrangements for Detroit
Chamber Winds.
As a performer/educator, he has been actively involved in the
development and implementation of several significant programs aimed at
expanding awareness of chamber music for younger audiences:
A three year grant from Chamber Music America presenting performances,
master classes, and coachings at area high schools, at the Michigan
All-State program, and at the National Music Camp at Interlochen.
A two-year program, funded by Metropolitan Life Foundation presenting
performances, sectional rehearsals, and side-by-side performances in the
Detroit Public Schools.
The Pine Mountain Music Festival- a Student/Professional Orchestra Camp
in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula featuring concerts, chamber music, and
Opera performances.
He has also worked with the Detroit Chamber Winds in developing an
ongoing commissioning project to create new music for winds, These
include: William Thomas McKinley (Symphony of Winds for mixed winds),
Davis Dzubay (Projectus-for solo trumpet and winds), Thomas Morrison
(Elegy for solo trumpet and strings), David Jex (Brassworks for Brass
Ensemble), Eric Ewazen (Symphony in Brass for Brass Ensemble and Michael
Daugherty (Motor City for Brass Ensemble)
He has presented master classes at the University of Michigan, Cornell
University, Michigan State University, , The University of Texas,
University of Colorado, Central Michigan University, and the University
of Wisconsin. |
